Strictly No Elephants

Strictly No Elephants

October 9, 2013 News Writerly Things 5

Once there was a small child and his tiny elephant. They needed a forever-home, so they wandered up streets and down, knocking on doors, always hoping…

And then, at the top of a tall flight of stairs and behind an apple-red door, a lady with brown hair and smiling eyes invited them to stay a while.

My sketch, and the reason they will hire a professional artist

I am delighted to announce that my short story, STRICTLY NO ELEPHANTS, has been acquired by Sylvie Frank at Paula Wiseman Books (Simon & Schuster) in a deal brokered by the lovely Laura Rennert of the Andrea Brown Literary Agency.

Some of you might remember a very early incarnation of this tale appearing on my Facebook fan page; if not, allow me to assure you that it is a heart-warming story of acceptance and friendship and tiny pachyderms with strong opinions.

This is my first foray into picture books, so it’s something of a Moncler outlet thrill to know an artist will be bringing this story to life over the course of 32 pages. Stay tuned for more news on the illustrator, release dates (tentative for 2015) and the like.

Would a tiny elephant eat a cupcake in celebration? I think so. Orange circus peanut-flavored, no doubt.
